Create an order manually
Last updated: August 16, 2026
This is the full walkthrough for building a single order by hand — every section of the form, what it's for, and what to expect when you submit. See create & schedule orders for how this fits alongside importing orders by CSV.
Open the form
In the sidebar, select + Create, then choose Order. This opens the order form, organized into Pickup, Dropoff, and Delivery Details.
Pickup & Dropoff
For each stop, enter the business or contact name and the address — start typing and use the autocomplete to fill in city, state, and postal automatically. Add any pickup or dropoff instructions the driver should know. If you've saved this location before, use the Saved Location picker to fill the whole stop in one click instead of typing it out again.
Delivery Details
This is where you describe what's moving and how. Add the items in the order, the package value, and — if you use them — an identifier, description, or tags to help you find the order later. Choose a dispatch strategy and an optimization strategy for the order if you want one applied automatically.
Then choose Now or Scheduled:
- Now means the order is ready to move as soon as you dispatch it.
- Scheduled adds a time zone and pickup and dropoff time windows, for work you're planning ahead of time.
Some organizations restrict who can edit the scheduled time fields, so you may find them locked depending on your setup. For more on how Now and Scheduled affect a delivery once it's moving, see send your first delivery.
Submit
Select Submit to create the order. Creating an order does not dispatch it — the order is saved and ready, but you still need to send it out as a separate step afterward.
Prefer to create orders from your own system instead of the portal? See the Nash API: Create Order.
What affects this
A few settings outside this form change what you see or what happens here:
| Setting | Where it's set | What it does here |
|---|---|---|
| Saved Locations | your Locations settings (Configure ▸ Network) | lets the Saved Location picker fill pickup or dropoff in one click |
| Dispatch & optimization strategies | Automate ▸ Strategies — see dispatch strategies and optimization strategies | populate the strategy choices on Delivery Details |
| Delivery windows | your delivery-windows setup | let you attach a delivery window to the order later, from Edit |
| Your location access | your organization's user and location setup | may replace the pickup fields with a fixed store picker |
| Org defaults | your organization settings | seed the default currency, units, and time zone on the form |
These combine to shape what you see and what's available on the form.
