Understanding Carrier API Service & Setting Up Nash Rates in Shopify
Last updated: April 2, 2026
Shopify's Carrier API Service (also called Carrier-Calculated Shipping) lets your store integrate with carriers and apps to display real-time shipping rates at checkout. Unlike flat-rate shipping, this dynamic model calculates costs based on factors like delivery distance - so your customers always see accurate pricing coming from the delivery providers.
Who Has Access to Carrier API Service?
The Carrier API Service is available on the following Shopify plans:
Advanced & Plus - included by default
Annual billing plans - included at no extra cost
Standard plans - available for an additional monthly fee

Adding Nash Rate to Your Shopify Store
Step 1: Verify Your Carrier API Service
Before setting up Nash rates, confirm that your store has the Carrier API Service enabled. You can check this directly from your Nash portal at portal.usenash.com/shopify.

Step 2: Add a Nash Rate
Once verified, go to the Rates tab in your Nash portal and click Add New Rate - if a rate hasn't already been added.

Step 3: Confirm Nash Appears in Shopify
Go to your Shopify Admin and click Settings.
Navigate to Shipping and Delivery, then select General under the Shipping section.
Find your domestic shipping zone and check for Nash in the carrier list.
Nash is listed → Your rates are active. No further action needed.
Nash is not listed → Continue to Step 4.
Step 4: Manually Add Nash Rates in Shopify
Click Add rate.
Under Rate type, select Use carrier or app to calculate rates.
Choose Nash Delivery (Rates provided by app).
Optionally, add any handling fees if needed.
Click Done, then Save.
If you have multiple Shipping Profiles, repeat these steps for each one. If you still face any issues in adding Nash Rate, please contact Nash Support.
