Reassign a live route
Last updated: October 29, 2026
Plans change after dispatch: a driver calls in sick, a van goes out of service, a provider can't cover a route after all. In Execute you can change who runs a route that's already been dispatched — its driver, its vehicle, or its provider — without rebuilding it. Each change can be made in two places:
- In the table, from the route's Driver, Vehicle or Provider cell.
- In the route panel, from the More menu in the bar under the route's header, under Reassign.
To assign a route before it's dispatched, use Assign a route instead. For what Execute is, see the Execute overview.
Which changes a route allows
What you can change depends on who's running the route:
- Your own fleet. When the route's provider is your internal fleet, you choose the driver and the vehicle, and you can move the route to a provider.
- An outside provider. The provider manages its own drivers and vehicles. The Driver and Vehicle cells show what the provider has shared, read only — hover to see "Driver assigned by the carrier — not editable from Nash" — or "Not shared by carrier" when it hasn't shared them. Reassign driver and Reassign vehicle are unavailable. You can still change the provider.
- No provider yet. The Driver and Vehicle cells show Assign Provider: pick a provider first, then the driver and vehicle.
Provider changes stop once a route is completed or canceled: the Provider cell becomes plain text and Reassign Provider leaves the menu. A failed route can still go to a new provider.
Change the driver
From the table: select the route's Driver cell. Search by name or External ID ("Search drivers or External ID…"), and pick a driver. Each driver shows whether they're on or off shift. To take the driver off the route, select Clear driver assignment at the bottom of the list.
From the route panel: open More and select Reassign driver (or Assign Driver if the route has none). The dialog shows the current driver and how many of the route's stops are done. Pick a driver — drivers who are off shift can't be picked here — and select Confirm reassignment.
Nash confirms with "Driver assigned", and the route moves to the new driver: it appears on their routes in the driver app.
Change the vehicle
The Vehicle column and Reassign vehicle appear when your organization has vehicles in its fleet.
From the table: select the route's Vehicle cell, search ("Search vehicles…"), and pick one. Clear vehicle assignment takes the vehicle off.
From the route panel: open More, select Reassign vehicle, pick a vehicle, and select Confirm reassignment.
Nash confirms with "Vehicle assigned". If the vehicle can't be assigned — for example, it doesn't belong to the driver group running the route — Nash shows "Failed to assign vehicle" and the route keeps its current one.
Change the provider
Changing the provider re-tenders the route: Nash asks the providers available to that route for fresh quotes, and you pick one.
From the table: select the route's Provider cell. The list reads Re-tender to provider (or Assign Provider if the route has none) and shows "Generating quotes…" while the quotes come in. Each option shows the provider and its price. Selecting one applies it straight away.
From the route panel: open More and select Reassign Provider. The dialog generates quotes as it opens and lists each option with its price. Pick one and select Select provider.
Nash confirms with "Provider assigned".
What changes when you switch provider
On a dispatched route, switching provider is a handover:
- Nash cancels the route's deliveries with the current provider and dispatches the route to the provider you picked, as new deliveries. The route's attempt with the old provider is recorded as reassigned.
- If you move the route between your own fleet's driver groups and the current driver also drives for the new group, the driver stays on the route. Otherwise, assign a driver once the new provider is in place.
- The new provider's quote is the one that applies from here on.
Nash dispatches; the provider you pick carries out the deliveries.
A provider change is refused once any delivery on the route has been completed. To hand off what's left of a route that's partly done, split the remaining stops onto a new route and assign that one — see Move and split stops on a live route.
If a change fails
When a reassignment fails, Nash shows the reason in a message and leaves the route as it was. If the quote list comes back empty or with an error, the route has no provider available to take it at the moment; try again shortly, or reach out to Nash if it persists.
