Resequence a live route
Last updated: October 29, 2026
Resequence changes the order of the stops a driver still has to make on a dispatched route. Use it when the planned order no longer fits the day: a customer asks for an earlier drop, a road closes, or a store wants one delivery done before another. You drag the remaining dropoffs into the order you want, check the result, and apply it in one step. For what Execute is, see the Execute overview; to change a route's stops before dispatch, see Edit a route.
Before you start
Resequence is in the bar under the route's header in the route panel. It's available when:
- The route isn't completed. The button is hidden on completed routes.
- Your own fleet runs the route. On a route an outside provider runs, the button is unavailable and reads "Route is managed by a 3rd-party provider. Switch provider to regain control." The provider sets its own stop order. To take the route back, see Reassign a live route.
Resequence a route
- In Execute, open the route.
- Select Resequence.
- Drag the dropoffs into the order you want. A dropoff you've moved shows where it moved from, and the footer counts how many stops are in new positions.
- Select Apply new sequence.
Nash confirms with "Route resequenced", and the route's stops show the new order.
What you can move
Only pending dropoffs — stops the driver hasn't started — can be dragged. Everything else stays where it is, marked so you can see why:
- the route's start and end points, shown as depots,
- pickups, breaks and returns,
- dropoffs that are Completed, and dropoffs the driver is already working on, shown as Locked.
The locked stops keep their places, and the pending dropoffs move around them. If a route has no pending dropoffs left, the dialog says there's nothing to resequence.
Two controls help on long routes:
- Reverse order flips the pending dropoffs end to end, in one click. The locked stops stay put, so on a route that's under way this reverses what's still ahead of the driver, not the whole route.
- Hide completed stops takes completed dropoffs out of the list so you only see what's left. It only changes what the dialog shows; the completed stops stay on the route.
Nothing changes on the route until you select Apply new sequence. Close the dialog to leave the route as it was.
The route keeps updating while the dialog is open. If the driver completes or starts a stop while you're working, that stop locks, and if the set of stops you can move changes, the list goes back to the route's current order so you never apply an order built on stale stops.
What the driver sees
When you apply a new order, the route's driver gets a "Route updated" notification in the driver app saying the stop order changed, and the app loads the new sequence.
If it fails
If Nash can't apply the order, it shows "Failed to resequence route" with the reason, and the route keeps its previous order. Open Resequence again to work from the route as it is now.
